Hardships of a Pizza Chef

Everybody in this country has their own way of life. Each person has their own way of surviving and getting money to support themselves and their family. Whether it’s closing multi-million dollar deals as a CEO of a hot dog company, or working part time as a hot dog vendor, the fact is, different people have different jobs. I would have to categorize my job at Pizza Corral as one of the jobs that is more closely related to the hot dog vendor’s, because my salary is closer to that of a hot dog vendor's. Though the hot dog vendor and I don’t make as much money as the CEO, this doesn’t mean that people in our working class don’t work hard.
Some people might think that being a cook at a pizza shop is an easy job. The truth is though that it’s a lot more work than it seems. First, to make the crust, you will need to make some dough. Gathering 20 pounds of flour and various other ingredients is the first step to making dough. Once these ingredients are at hand, they are mixed in a giant bowl for about 10 minutes, until it is set up perfectly. When the dough is done being mixed, it is cut into two sections and placed into oiled buckets and is now ready to make delicious pizzas such as our pepperoni, the sausage pepperoni, the Deluxe, the Hawaiian, etc,. From here, the dough is placed through our rolling machine which takes some experience to get to know how to use. This machine is hard to use because the dough is usually sticky and it does not always cooperate properly with our machine, sticking to the giant rollers and everything else inside. After a few attempts at rolling the crust, the finished product is hopefully a perfect circle of crust of whatever size pizza was ordered. From here, the sauce is now put on the pizza. This sauce isn’t just any old pizza sauce either, for it is very unique. It is unique because it has been the same recipe for all 27 years that Pizza Corral has been in business. Many people have commented on how good our sauce is and some ask how it is made. They ask, but they will never know how to make this unique sauce, because it is a secret. Don’t feel left out in the cold though my fellow readers, for I, the Pizza Ninja, a loyal employee of seven years, does not know the secret recipe for the sauce. Pizza Corral is a family owed business, always has been, and only members of the owner’s family know this unique recipe. The rest of the ingredients are now put on the pizza. This task in my opinion is the easiest part of making a pizza but there is a catch. Once the ingredients are added on, the pizza is ready to go into the extremely hot oven, 475 degrees to be exact. One the pizza is in the oven you then return to the pizza table to make more pizza. The hard part about this though is making sure you don’t forget about the pizza that’s already in the oven. It is easy to not realize how long something takes you, and it is easy to get distracted from tending the oven. Maybe it is really busy and you have to keep making more pizza, maybe the phone rings with an angry customer and you can’t get off the phone and back to the oven causing a pizza to burn, or simply the distractions of other co-workers. When this happens, the boss gets mad, understandable though because you are costing them money.
Being a pizza chef, or working in any restaurant, isn’t really the slacker job that some people might think. There are many tasks that are stressful, such as answering a hundred phone orders in a row from a constantly ringing phone, or simply trying not to cost the boss money by burning things because you didn’t pay attention to them. Everyone has there own lifestyles and means of survival. Some are more fortunate and make more money than others, like the CEO of the hot dog company, and some just work hard and that’s all that matters to them.
